Toward Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula
Vice Minister Kim Nam Jung Attends the 2026 INSS PEACE FORUM (March 9)
On March 9, Vice Minister of Unification Kim Nam Jung attended the 2026 INSS PEACE FORUM hosted by the Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS).
The forum, under the theme "Toward Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula," featured presentations and discussions by experts across two sessions.
Session 1: Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and the Direction of International Cooperation
Session 2: Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and the Direction of Inter-Korean Cooperation
In his congratulatory remarks, Vice Minister Kim stated, "The Lee Jae Myung administration seeks to achieve substantive progress in resolving the North Korean nuclear issue through a step-by-step and feasible approach." He elaborated on the vision, saying, "A nuclear-free Korean Peninsula is our ultimate goal. Our roadmap to realize this starts with a 'freeze' at the current state in the short term, proceeding through a 'reduction' phase, and eventually achieving a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula in the long term."
He added, "We will not cease our efforts to create a Korean Peninsula free of war and nuclear weapons by strengthening strategic communication with relevant nations, including the U.S., China, Japan, and Russia."
Vice Minister Kim also emphasized, "We will communicate with neighboring countries to ensure the swift resumption of North Korea-U.S. dialogue and do our utmost to ensure that such dialogue leads to a virtuous cycle of easing tensions and restoring inter-Korean relations." He further noted, "South Korea is a direct party to the issues on the Korean Peninsula. We cannot resolve these matters without cooperation from neighboring countries, centered on the United States."
He concluded by saying, "I believe your insight and perspective will serve as the wisdom and foundation for the peaceful coexistence of the South and North and the peaceful resolution of Korean Peninsula issues."
