Ambler Road Announcement Unleashes Alaska's Mineral Wealth

This week, the Trump administration approved the Ambler Road Project in Alaska. The project is a 211-mile road connecting the Dalton Highway to the Ambler Mining District, containing large deposits of copper, gallium, germanium and cobalt. House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response:

"The Ambler Road Project is the key that will unlock Alaska's extraordinary resource potential and unleash American mineral dominance. This project will support thousands of good-paying jobs and generate revenues that will boost Alaska's rural communities. I thank President Trump for taking action to secure American mineral supply chains and grow our economy."

Background

President Trump's decision overturns the Biden administration's 2024 rejection of the Ambler Road, which ignored Alaska's economic needs and the role domestic mining plays in ensuring U.S. national security. Construction of the road will directly support 2,730 jobs, driving income, spending and economic growth in rural Alaska. Alaska is projected to receive more than $1.1 billion in revenues from mining license tax revenues, corporate income taxes, production royalties and claim rents associated with this project.
