Gov. Rhoden Signs South Dakota Values Bills into Law

PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed three bills that protect South Dakota values, including HB 1184, which clearly defines "man" and "woman" in state law.

"South Dakota has always stood for truth, and my Administration will continue to uphold the values that make our state strong, safe, and free," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "These bills reflect our commitment to carry those values forward for future generations."

President Trump previously issued an Executive Orderrestoring biological truth, recognizing male and female as the only two sexes. HB 1184 reflects those same values.

Governor Rhoden also signed the following two bills:

  • SB 159revises requirements pertaining to the minimum age for marriage; and
  • HB 1161amends provisions related to changing rooms, sleeping quarters, and restrooms.

Governor Rhoden has signed 196 bills into law and vetoed one this legislative session.
