LATROBE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team picked up two weekly awards on March 23 when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced its players of the week.

Opposite hitter Caleb Fries, of Altoona, was tabbed as the AMCC's Offensive Player of the Week, while libero Adam Chan, of Framingham, Ma., was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Fries and Chan helped the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team to a 1-1 week of conference play.

In last Friday's game against Houghton, Fries scored a match-high 20 points on 17 kills, two service aces, and two block assists. He followed that up by scoring 13.5 points, the second most in Saturday's game against Penn State Behrend. Fries had 12 kills, one service ace, and one block assist.

On the week, Fries totaled 33.5 points (4.8 points per set), 29 kills (4.14 kills per set), three aces (0.43 aces per set), and three total blocks (0.43 blocks per set). He also compiled a .250 attack percentage.

Fries ranks fourth in conference in kills per set (2.96) and kills (210) and second in service aces per set (0.42).

In the home victory against Houghton, Chan had 16 digs, the second most of the match. In the road loss to Penn State Behrend, Chan tied for the match-high in digs with 12.

On the week, Chan had 28 digs and averaged 4.0 digs per set.

Chan ranks second in the conference in digs per set (2.44) and digs (173).

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball is 6-14 overall, including a 4-3 record in the AMCC. The Lions continue their schedule on March 28 in a rematch against Houghton.
