WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement:
"Alejandro and his dad are back home where they belong. They were locked away at the Dilley trailer prison for nearly a month. They should have never been there in the first place-they are asylum seekers who did everything the right way.
"Alejandro is just 15. He missed his last days as a sophomore at Churchill High School, where he played soccer. Thanks to the overwhelming support of his family, friends, coaches, teachers, and the entire San Antonio community, they were released.
"We must shut down Dilley and stop more children from having their childhoods robbed of them."
Background:
Alejandro and his father, Jairo, were detained in San Antonio on May 17, 2026 on their way to a soccer game. Congressman Castro met with Alejandro and Jairo during his inspection of the Dilley detention center on May 26. Corey Sullivan Martin, Esq. represented the family.
