Washington, D.C. (05/20/2026) -- Today, Congressman Tim Burchett's (TN-02) bill, the Duplication Scoring Act, passed the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. This bill will require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to review bills reported by committees for potential duplication of existing federal programs. The GAO will also be required to share its findings with the Congressional Budget Office for public release.
"Chairman Comer put me in charge of the DOGE Subcommittee to root out waste, and that's exactly what this bill does," said Congressman Burchett. "Congress ought to know when we're voting on duplicative programs before wasting another taxpayer dollar. If Members vote for waste after this, they can't say they weren't warned."
