More than 600 participants at The Acorn School(some three months old) paraded around Magnolia Lawn on April 11 during one of hundreds of activities taking place across the nation for the annual Week of the Young Child. This celebration of young children and early learning shines a spotlight on the importance of child care to working parents. The Acorn School event was made possible through the Vanderbilt Child and Family Center, with collaboration from additional staff, Acorn School families, and student musicians from the Spirit of Gold Marching Band, directed by Doug Morin.
Through The Acorn School, the Vanderbilt Child and Family Center provides early childhood care and education licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education to serve children ages six weeks through six years. The program is 12 months, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and offers a Reggio-inspired, play-based pedagogy and an emergent curriculum at three locations on the Vanderbilt campus.
