Categories, text messaging features will soon be available as part of Norman News for residents

Norman, OKLA. - The City of Norman is partnering with Granicus to upgrade and revamp distribution of Norman News - email messaging for residents - beginning August 1, 2025.

The platform to be used for distribution, GovDeliveryby Granicus, will include capabilities to opt-in for subject-specific e-messaging should users desire and also feature some text message delivery options.

"This will allow us to better tailor messages for the individual opting in," said Tiffany Vrska, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Norman. "Community members will have the opportunity to follow the news or events that are most important to them."

Norman News categories are set to include:

  • City Events & Engagement Opportunities
  • Utility Customer News
  • City of Norman Careers
  • Public Safety Department News
  • Traffic Advisories
  • Municipal Election Information
  • General Municipal News & Updates

Individuals that already enrolled in Norman Newswill be opted into General Municipal News & Updates through GovDelivery, which will include e-messaging for all categories. No re-enrollment is necessary. However, preferences for longtime users or first-time users will be able to be changed at any time upon launch of the new system. For verification purposes, confirmation emails will be automatically sent to users who enroll in the new system or opt to switch preferences.

Norman News recipients should note that after July 31, e-messaging from the City of Norman will come from [email protected]and may have a slightly different look and feel.

"GovDelivery has proven to be an advanced and reliable system for partner agencies, so we are looking forward to this rollover," Vrska said. "We value every opportunity to keep residents informed and engaged."

Emergency-based messaging will continue to come from the City of Norman's AlertNorman RAVE System, which is separate and apart from Norman News. All residents are encouraged to register to receive emergency alerts.
