M. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with the UK Foreign Secretary, Ms Yvette Cooper, in Paris on 6 October.
Ms Cooper's visit to Paris builds on President Macron's state visit to the United Kingdom and the 37th Franco-British summit, from 8 to 10 July 2025.
The two ministers reaffirmed their unfailing support for Ukraine and their determination to coordinate their action as regards sanctions against Russia and combating the shadow fleet. On the Middle East, they discussed the next steps with a view to securing a ceasefire in Gaza and making headway on implementing the two-state solution. The meeting also provided an opportunity to talk about bilateral issues, including our renewed defence cooperation through the modernization of the Lancaster House agreements.
The two ministers agreed to continue their close coordination on migration by monitoring the pilot agreement aimed at preventing dangerous Channel and North Sea crossings, while working to implement a safe, long-term solution in a European framework. The [French] Minister noted with interest the introduction in the UK of a new digital ID system, which will help combat illegal work and irregular migration. Our cooperation testifies to our governments' desire to encourage a safe, legal framework for migration.
