On the Hill: The House is Back in Town

The House is back in session today, and passing the Senate-approved government funding bill to stave off a Sept. 30 shutdown is the top item on the agenda. The bill would fund federal agencies through Dec. 11.

It is possible that the House could adjourn early for one to three of its remaining scheduled weeks in session before the midterms after passing the short-term funding bill.

340B Program Update

America's Essential Hospitals responded to Sen. Bill Cassidy's (R-La.) 340B Drug Pricing Integrity and Affordability for Patients (340B for Patients) Act discussion draft in an Aug. 27 letter, urging the preservation of the program's original intent of an up-front discount structure for covered entities. The letter also raises concerns with the proposal's restrictions on patient definition, contract pharmacies, and child sites that could limit essential hospitals' ability to provide robust care for its communities.

The association is also preparing feedback on the Senate 340B Bipartisan Working Group's Supporting Underserved and Strengthening Transparency, Accountability and Integrity Now for the Future of 340B Act (SUSTAIN 340B Act) that will be shared before the end of September.

Committee Activity This Week

The House is back in session this week, while the Senate remains in recess through Sept. 14.
