UK Power Networks has once again been recognised as one of the world's leading employers, after securing Investors in People's highest Platinum accreditation for another three years.
The electricity network operator, which keeps power flowing for millions of homes and businesses across London, the South East and East of England, has re-earned the global accolade for the way it supports, develops and engages its people.
Nine out of ten staff say the electricity company is a 'great place to work' and feel motivated by their manager to achieve their best work. More than 500 employees were interviewed, and 20 sites visited during the rigorous assessment.
The firm was first awarded Platinum Investors in People status in 2020, reaccredited in 2023 and has now achieved the high standard for another three years. Its score increased to 767 out of 900 this year, up from 735 previously, and beats the industry (Electricity/Gas/Steam/Air Conditioning) average of 713.
Platinum is the highest level of accreditation possible to achieve. It means policies and practices around supporting people are embedded in every corner of UK Power Networks. In a platinum-status company, everyone - from the CEO to a customer services trainee - knows they have a part to play in the company doing well, and is always looking for ways to improve.
Katherine Chapman, CEO of Investors in People, said: "Congratulations to everyone at UK Power Networks on achieving We Invest in People Platinum accreditation for the third consecutive time.
This outstanding achievement reflects a long-standing commitment to investing in people, fostering strong leadership, and creating a culture where colleagues can thrive and perform at their best.
"Retaining Platinum accreditation is no small feat and is a testament to the dedication, passion and hard work demonstrated across the organisation every day. It is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the collective efforts of colleagues at every level and one that should be celebrated with pride. Congratulations to all involved on this well-deserved success."
The report said sustaining this level over three cycles was 'a significant achievement' and described leadership as 'a standout strength' deserving of real recognition. Employees said managers are 'visible, accessible, supportive and willing to listen.'
It added: "Employees understand how their work links to safety, customer service,
net zero, connections, vulnerable customers and cost efficiency. This clarity helps people see the purpose and impact of their contribution."
Andrew Pace, director of HR, said: "This recognition means so much because it comes from listening to our people. Behind every score and every assessment are thousands of colleagues who care deeply about doing a great job for each other, for our customers and for the communities we serve.
"To sustain Platinum status for a third time is something we feel incredibly proud of, because it shows the kind of workplace we are building together - one where people feel valued, supported and inspired to make a difference every day."
