Chinese Ambassador to Iceland He Rulong Publishes an Article Titled “The Need for Strong China-U.S. Relations” on Morgunblaðið

On June 2, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland He Rulong wrote an article titled "The Need for Strong China-U.S. Relations" in Iceland's leading newspaper Morgunblaðið. The article introduced the China-U.S. Summit and China's position on the Taiwan question.

The article stated that President Xi Jinping and President Trump agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, providing strategic guidance for bilateral relations over the next three years and beyond. The new vision means positive stability with cooperation as the mainstay, healthy stability with competition within proper limits, constant stability with manageable differences, and lasting stability with expectable peace. The new vision serves the benefits of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.

The article emphasized that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair, and the most important issue between China and the U.S.. If it is handled properly, the overall relationship will be stable. Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, and the entire relationship will be in great jeopardy. "Taiwan independence" and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water. The U.S. side must exercise extra caution in handling the Taiwan question.
