Ansari Secures Long-Delayed Combat-Related Compensation for Wounded Marine Veteran

PHOENIX - Last week, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) met with Marine Corps combat veteran Sergeant Alecsaiah Tree, whose combat-related compensation claim was delayed five months past the processing times after nearly two years without an update. Following concerted efforts by Ansari's office, Sergeant Tree secured approval for Combat-Related Special Compensation with a 100 percent combat-related disability rating, retroactive to April 1, 2024.

"Sergeant Tree served our country for more than 11 years and was wounded while helping evacuate people from Afghanistan. He should not have had to wait this long for the compensation he earned," said Rep. Ansari. "I'm glad my office was able to help him secure approval. Our responsibility to service members continues long after they leave the military, and I remain committed to helping Arizona veterans access the benefits and support they deserve."

"After waiting nearly two years for an update, I'm grateful that Congresswoman Ansari's office helped move my case forward," said Sergeant Tree. "Having someone follow up and help me navigate the process made a real difference. Veterans should be able to get the benefits they earned without having to fight for them."

Sergeant Tree was wounded in the August 26, 2021, attack at Abbey Gate during the military evacuation from Afghanistan. He contacted Rep. Ansari's office after waiting 23 months for an update on his compensation request-five months beyond the agency's stated processing timeframe. Ansari's office contacted the Department of the Navy and worked to get Sergeant Tree's claim processed.
