To reduce the impacts of canopy loss, the City works with partners and development projects to plant numerous trees every year on City-owned and controlled property. The impact of Raleigh's tree canopy positively impacts carbon dioxide uptake, storm water mitigation, and air pollution removal, and the financial impact is $34M annually.
One new partner for Raleigh's urban forestry group is the Rotary Club of Raleigh. The organizations are collaborating on the Rotary's America 250 City of Oaks Tree Campaign, a tree planting and community engagement effort in celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary. 200 trees will be planted on city property over the next two years through this collaboration. The Rotary is donating $30,000 to purchase 200 trees, and Raleigh Parks will use its resources to plant and sustain the trees. Support for the campaign has been contagious, including the Raleigh Parks' Sustainability, Wildlife, Urban Tree committee, North State Bank, WRAL, and Duke Energy.
