Ministry of Foreign Affairs Welcomes Portugal's Recognition of the State of Palestine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomes the decision of the Republic of Portugal to recognize the State of Palestine, regarding it as a courageous step consistent with international law and United Nations resolutions, and one that bolsters ongoing efforts to achieve peace and advance the two-state solution.

The Ministry extends its appreciation to Portugal; its President, government, and people, and affirms the State of Palestine's determination to build stronger and deeper bilateral relations with Portugal and to enhance joint coordination across all fields. At the same time, the Ministry calls upon those countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take this step in order to safeguard the two-state solution. It further urges them to actively engage in international efforts aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire, protecting civilians, and launching a genuine political process to end the occupation and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, in line with the New York Declaration, the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and international law. Such measures are essential to ensuring security, stability, and prosperity for all states and peoples of the region.
