Free community event brough together resources, health services, and expert insights

Oakland - Caltrans District 4 invited the public to attend the 3rd Annual Equity & Empowerment Expo, a free community event focused on connecting individuals and families with essential resources, services, and opportunities.

The event took place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Caltrans District 4 Auditorium, 111 Grand Avenue in Oakland.

Centered on the theme "Where Community Meets Opportunity," the Equity & Empowerment Expo brought together community-based organizations, public agencies, and local leaders to support more equitable, inclusive, and resilient communities across the Bay Area.

"Events like the Equity & Empowerment Expo strengthen livability by bringing people together, fostering meaningful community connections, and building partnerships that expand access to resources and create lasting impact," said Andrea Pugh, Caltrans District 4 Equity Program Manager and founder of the Expo. "This is about meeting people where they are and ensuring communities have the tools and support they need to thrive."

Event Highlights Included:

  • Resource Tabling: Connecting with community organizations and agencies offering tools and information on climate action, financial literacy, safety, and mental health and wellbeing.
  • Health & Wellness Checks: Participation in free services including blood pressure screenings, respiratory assessments, and interactive colon health education.
  • Equitable Degree Pathways: Access to guidance and resources that support higher education completion and career advancement.
  • Expert-Led Talks: Learning from leaders and practitioners on topics such as disability rights and accessibility, health equity, generational wealth, transportation equity, and LGBTQIA+ and Tribal representation.
  • Equity-Focused Programs: Engagement on initiatives supporting justiceinvolved individuals, environmental justice efforts, and resources for aging adults and memory care.
  • Free Giveaways: Attendees received complimentary items and resources throughout the event.

The Expo served as a platform for collaboration and reinforced Caltrans' commitment to advancing equity in transportation and community engagement.
