The US National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warningfor high winds and low relative humidity to include the Bismarck area. The Red Flag Warning is in effecttoday until 9 PM. A Red Flag Warning indicates critical fire weather conditions where fires start quickly, spread rapidly, and burn intensely. Development into high-intensity burning will usually be faster and occur from smaller fires. All fires are potentially serious.
The Bismarck Fire Department reminds city residents that additional Burn Restrictions are in place when a Red Flag Warning is issued to include the Bismarck area. When a Red Flag Warning is issued or when the fire danger index is at the "Very High" or "Extreme" level, all recreational burning is banned. Recreational burning includes outdoor fire pits, fireplaces, portable outdoor fireplaces, and chimineas.
Also, any outdoor cooking appliances using solid fuels tend to produce sparks which can lead to a fire. Solid fuels include wood, charcoal briquettes, and pellets. These solid fuel cooking devices are also restricted when a Red Flag Warning is issued or when the fire danger index is at the "Very High" or "Extreme" level. Gas grills may be used. It is recommended to keep the lid closed, attend the grill while in use, and have on-site capability to extinguish fire if necessary.
