WASHINGTON - Recent claims circulating online assert that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently authorized the release of genetically engineered (GE) mosquitoes. These claims are false and the Trump EPA is setting the record straight.

THE FACTS:

  • A previously issued Experimental Use Permit (EUP) expired in 2024.
  • No releases are currently authorized in the United States.
  • EPA is not aware of any releases in the U.S. following the expiration of the EUP.

Any unauthorized release would constitute a violation of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and would be subject to enforcement action.
