Overnight double-lane closures followed by full closure of southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road begins Aug. 19

Colorado Springs - The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, SEMA Construction, Inc., will implement an overnight full closure of southbound Interstate 25 at Garden of the Gods Road (near Exit 146) on Wednesday, Aug. 19. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public and help minimize impacts to daytime traffic.

Southbound I-25 will be closed overnight to allow crews to safely install a new interstate directional sign structure near Exit 146, south of Garden of the Gods Road. The southbound on-ramp at Garden of the Gods Road will be closed, while the off-ramp will remain open. The new overhead structure will provide advance information, helping motorists identify upcoming exits and safely navigate the corridor.

Motorists are encouraged to visit COtrip.org before traveling to check the latest road conditions and lane closure information. Closure schedules are subject to change due to weather, field conditions and construction progress.

Traffic Impacts

Overnight Full Closure

On the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 19, motorists can expect an overnight full closure of southbound I-25 near Exit 146, south of Garden of the Gods Road.

• Beginning at 8 p.m., one lane of traffic will close
• From 10 p.m. to midnight, there will be double-lane closures, and traffic will be reduced to one lane
• From midnight to 5 a.m., there will be a full closure of southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road
• The following detour will be in place for motorists traveling southbound on I-25:
  • Motorists should take Exit 146 to Garden of the Gods Road, turn right (west) on Garden of the Gods Road, turn left (south) on Centennial Boulevard and continue straight to reconnect with southbound I-25 past Fillmore Street near Centennial Boulevard.
• Two lanes will reopen at 5 a.m., with one lane remaining closed
• All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m.
• The Garden of the Gods Road southbound on-ramp will be closed, while the off-ramp will remain open.

Overnight Double Lane Closures

Motorists can anticipate overnight double-lane closures on northbound and southbound I-25 between Fillmore Street (near Exit 145) and Garden of the Gods Road (near Exit 146) through September. These closures allow crews to safely complete paving and other construction activities while protecting workers and motorists and minimizing impacts to daytime traffic.

Overnight double-lane closures will be implemented as needed.

• Northbound closures begin at 7 p.m. and southbound begin at 8 p.m., one lane of traffic will close
• From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., there will be double-lane closures, and traffic will be reduced to one lane
• All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

• Daytime work hours are Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Nighttime work hours are Monday through Sunday
  • Northbound from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Southbound from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

• Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
• Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
• Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
• Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
• Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
• Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
• Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
• Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
• Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
• Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
