USDA Rural Development Awards Grant to Rebuilding Together New Orleans to Assist Homeowners in Rural Areas

(Alexandria, La., November 2, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Louisiana State Director Troy Romero today announced that USDA is awarding $126,462 through the Housing Preservation Grant Program to Rebuilding Together New Orleans to assist rural homeowners with critical home repairs and housing rehabilitation.

"The Housing Preservation Grant Program is one of the many ways USDA Rural Development invests in the people and places that make rural Louisiana strong," said Romero. "By partnering with Rebuilding Together New Orleans, we are helping low-income homeowners make critical repairs and create safer living conditions for families in rural Louisiana."

"The USDA Housing Preservation Grant helps Rebuilding Together make critical repairs for families in rural south Louisiana who have no other way to fix their homes. For these families, a safe, dry, and healthy house means they can stay in the community they love," said Rebuilding Together New Orleans Executive Director William Stoudt. "When we preserve a home, we strengthen the neighborhood around it, building more resilient communities that are better prepared for the next storm. We are grateful to USDA Rural Development for investing $126,462 in that mission."

The grant, combined with leveraged funding provided by Rebuilding Together New Orleans, is expected to assist approximately 14 very low- and low-income homeowners in Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. Mary, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. James, and Assumption parishes.

The Housing Preservation Grant Program provides grants to qualified non-profit organizations that, in turn, assist very- low and low-income homeowners with needed home repairs and help rehabilitate eligible properties in rural areas.
