Klobuchar Statement on Meta Settlement

MINNESOTA - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement on today's Meta settlement:

"Today's landmark settlement between Meta and a coalition of states, including Minnesota, is a critical step toward protecting children online.

Meta has finally agreed to put in place critical reforms to its platform like time limits on social media and restrictions on push notifications, and it will pay $17 billion for the harm it caused.

I've been taking on social media companies for years - from passing the bipartisan TAKE IT DOWN Act to stop the spread of sexually explicit deepfakes on social media to fighting to open the courtroom doors to parents harmed by Meta's constant push to make money no matter the harm.

Parents shouldn't have to fight Big Tech alone. We need rules of the road to hold tech companies accountable and protect kids. Congress needs to pass strong kids' safety rules and make these platforms responsible for the products they build so they stop blaming parents. It's not the parents. It's the products."
