Waycross, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new resources to strengthen sexual assault and child abuse investigations.
Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to help Satilla Advocacy Services (SAS) update its forensic interview equipment to better investigate sexual assault and child abuse and solve crimes.
A nationally and state-accredited sexual assault and child advocacy center, SAS plans to use the Federal funding to outfit five forensic interview rooms with digital video and audio recording equipment, helping ensure service providers and law enforcement have access to a comprehensive, reliable, and time-stamped record of a survivor's testimony and supporting efforts to prevent further domestic violence crimes.
Sen. Ossoff is delivering $92,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on January 23.
"I have worked tirelessly to protect children in Georgia," Sen. Ossoff said. "These Federal resources will upgrade forensic equipment to ensure survivors of sexual assault and child abuse receive the support they deserve."
"We are deeply grateful to Senator Ossoff for supporting the work we do to protect children and serve survivors. These upgraded forensic interview systems will help ensure survivors' stories are documented clearly and accurately while strengthening investigations and supporting justice for victims," said Tess Aldridge, Executive Director of Satilla Advocacy Services.
