Help Keep Mardi Gras Rolling: Apply to Join Mobile's Barricade Crews on Nov. 12
Mobile, Ala. - The City of Mobile's Traffic Engineering Department will host an application fair on Tuesday, Nov. 12, for the barricade crews that make local Mardi Gras parades possible.
The City of Mobile is looking to hire up to 30 seasonal employees to work on barricade crews before, during, and after next year's Mardi Gras parades. The application fair will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Traffic Engineering facility at 852 Gayle Street.
These positions are critical to the success and safety of the City's Carnival celebrations. Barricade crews help install, monitor, and remove the barricades that allow parades to move safely through downtown while keeping traffic flowing in surrounding areas. The crews also play a vital role in protecting parade participants and revelers throughout the season.
Positions pay $15.60 per hour for employees working 40 hours or less per week. Some positions will begin as early as November to assist with setup and other Traffic Engineering duties, while others will begin closer to the start of Mardi Gras season. All employees will be required to work every parade, typically beginning around 3 p.m. and continuing until the parades conclude each evening.
Prospective applicants attending the fair should bring a valid ID and Social Security card. Candidates must also pass a physical and drug test prior to employment. For more information about the application fair or barricade crew positions, contact the City of Mobile Traffic Engineering Department at 251-208-2960 or visit https://www.cityofmobile.org.
