ATLANTA - Members of the Georgia House of Representatives will unveil the official portrait of former State Representative and Dean of the House, Calvin Smyre, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 4 p.m. in the House Chamber of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
His portrait will be one of only seven African American portraits hanging in the State Capitol. The portrait was painted by Columbus artist Steven Tette. Dean Smyre will be joined on the floor by special guests to honor his 48 years of service to the people of Georgia.
Former Dean Calvin Smyre said, "Words cannot adequately describe how I feel! It's one of the highest honors to have your portrait hung in the Georgia State Capitol. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this would occur."
