Conferences Will Bring 55,000 Attendees to LA and Generate $100 Million of Economic Impact
LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that following her approvalof the LA Convention Center (LACC) Modernization and Expansion Project, three organizations have chosen Los Angeles as the location for their annual conferences. These conferences will bring 55,000 people to Los Angeles who will generate an economic impact of nearly $100 million and deliver approximately $3.4 million to the City of Los Angeles' General Fund. Renderings of the Convention Center can be found here.
The LACC Expansion Project provides these three organizations the needed amount of space to host their annual conferences. Without the expansion, the LACC would not provide enough square footage to host these events. American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) brings 15,000 people in 2031; American Geophysical Union (AGU) brings 25,000 people in 2032; and International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Exposition brings 15,000 people in 2037.
"The City Council and I approved the LA Convention Center to revitalize Downtown, boost tourism, attract larger conventions and create good-paying jobs for Angelenos. The benefits of this investment are already being realized," said Mayor Karen Bass. "These three conferences will bring 55,000 people to LACC who will stay at hotels in our city and visit our local businesses, generating nearly $100 million of economic impact. Our City Tourism Department and their partners worked to successfully bring these significant conferences to Los Angeles now that the Convention Center modernization and expansion will provide the amount of space that they need for their events."
The American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Annual Convention is the premier professional development event for 15,000 speech-language pathologists; audiologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists, assistants; and students. The ASHA Convention provides access to thousands of educational sessions on the latest research and evidence-based practices in communication sciences and disorders, a chance to network with peers and experts, and an exhibit hall floor to discover cutting-edge tools and resources.
"We are excited to bring the ASHA Convention to Los Angeles and the expanded LA Convention Center in 2031, and to cultivate lasting collaborations with the city's hospitality community in the years to come," said Krista LeZotte, Senior Director, Convention & Meetings, ASHA. "We look forward to seeing how the expansion will elevate the attendee experience and open new avenues for engagement."
The American Geophysical Union (AGU), a global community supporting more than half a million advocates and professionals in the Earth and space sciences, draws 25,000 attendees from around the world to its annual meeting to explore groundbreaking research and shape the future of our planet.
"With the confirmation of the LA Convention Center expansion, AGU is thrilled to announce our Annual Meeting will come to the City of Angels and the new LA Convention Center in December of 2032," said Vicki Hawarden, Vice President, Meeting & Events, AGU. "We are looking forward to bringing the world's largest gathering of Earth and space scientists to this state-of-the-art facility in this world class city."
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Exposition is the premier global gathering of 15,000 police leaders, offering unparalleled opportunities for professional development, collaboration, and innovation. The event brings together thousands of public safety professionals to explore cutting-edge strategies, share leading practices, and engage with the latest technology and services shaping the future of policing.
"From dynamic workshops and real-world case studies to a robust exhibit hall showcasing the most advanced tools in law enforcement, IACP 2037 will deliver the high-impact programming our members rely on to lead with excellence," says Vincent Talucci, Executive Director and CEO, IACP. "We look forward to welcoming our community to Los Angeles for an unforgettable experience that will inspire, inform, and empower."
In October 2025, Mayor Bass joined Downtown LA stakeholders, labor leaders and elected officials to officially start the expansion and modernizationof the LA Convention Center. With major global events on the horizon, this expansion is a bold step to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles back to the cultural and economic hub that represents the best of what this city has to offer. Tourism is a massive economic driver and a modernized Convention Center sends a message to the world that with major global events on the horizon, Los Angeles is ready to compete and on the world stage.
