Weather situation in Albania

According to reports from the Civil Protection structures at the National Operational Emergency Center, the situation is as follows:

Road Conditions:
• Dibra region, Arbri road is impassable at Qafa Murriz due to heavy snowfall. Contractor teams are working to clear this route.
• Dibra municipality, several administrative centers are blocked, including Lurë, Selishtë, Luzni, Kala e Dodës, and Zall Dardhë, due to blocked main roads.
• Bulqiza municipality, the Ostren and Trebisht administrative units are blocked.
• In Klos municipality, secondary roads to villages linking to administrative centers such as Suç, Gurë, and Xibër are blocked.
• In Mat municipality, several village roads linking to administrative centers like Macukull, Lis, Derjan, and Komsi are blocked.
• Peshkopi-Ulëz road at Qafa Ulëz was blocked due to snow, ice, and vehicles traveling without winter tires. Traffic has resumed normally today.
• Rural roads connecting Fushë-Arrëz with the Iballë administrative unit and its villages are blocked.
• Elbasan-Qafë Thanë road, at the Murrash curves, there were obstructions due to debris. At Qafë Thanë, snowfall has made traffic difficult for heavy vehicles. Efforts to clean and salt the road continue today, and traffic is managed with winter tires.
• Tirana-Elbasan road, at the tunnel exit, there were traffic issues due to wet ground and ice. Only one lane was open, but salt distribution has taken place, and traffic is moving with winter tires.
• Krujë municipality, the Cudhi Kamp-Qafështamë road is blocked by snowfall.
• Vuno-Himarë road, at the Vishë Bridge, a landslide has occurred. The road is passable in one direction, and efforts are underway to open the other side.
• The road to Shëngjergj, in the Tirana municipality, is difficult to pass due to heavy snow.
• In Lanabregas, the blockage of the collector has caused water accumulation, threatening to flood a house.
• On the Fresku-Trau Dajti segment, at km 5, a landslide blocked one lane. Efforts are underway to clear the road.
• In Vlora municipality, the situation is calm, with no flooding reported in the city.

Today, snowplows are working to keep open passable roads and clear blocked roads caused by snow. OSSHE teams are working to restore electricity in remote areas.
Rivers and Reservoirs: Reports from local Civil Protection structures indicate that all rivers and reservoirs are within normal levels and do not pose any risk, except for the Ishëm River in the Murqinë village of Bubq, Krujë municipality, where it has overflowed, flooding 20 hectares of farmland.
At Qafa e Murrizit (Arbri Road), a vehicle with three people was blocked by snow. Early this morning, a bulldozer and an ambulance were dispatched, and emergency teams are working to assist those trapped.

Weather Forecast: The weather is expected to alternate between moderate to heavy cloud cover, with occasional short periods of clearing, particularly along the Western Plain. Light rain is expected across most of the territory, with brief, isolated showers until midday. After midday, rainfall intensity is expected to decrease. In the mountainous regions (Northeast, East, and South) above 400-600 meters, light to moderate snow is forecasted, with isolated snowstorms in higher elevations. Dense fog is likely due to snow and rain. There will be freezing conditions along mountain roads, especially at higher altitudes.
Winds will come from the Northeast to East at moderate speeds of 4-14 m/s, with stronger winds (16-26 m/s) along the coastline and in valley areas.

Extreme Temperatures:
• In the mountains: minimum temperatures will drop to -6°C, while maximum temperatures will rise to -2°C.
• In lowland areas: minimum temperatures will drop to -2°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 7°C.
• Along the coast: minimum temperatures will be around 4°C, with maximums reaching 7°C.
The National Civil Protection Agency is closely monitoring the situation in the north and Vlora and is in constant communication with all Civil Protection structures to address any emergencies that may arise due to the weather conditions.
