The Road Ahead: Why Waco's Streets Are Under Construction

Published on February 11, 2026

If you've driven through Waco recently, you've noticed more orange cones, detours, and heavy machinery. For years, Waco's street repairs maintenance has lagged. Now, we're playing catchup to fix aging infrastructure across the entire city - not just downtown.

We're working to build the roads you deserve sooner. This means multiple projects at the same time. We know this causes detours, but construction costs are rising fast. The streets we fix this year will cost more next year, so we're delivering the best value for your tax dollar. Many of our street funds come from specific sources for specific projects, so if we don't use the money now, we lose it.

Also, keep in mind that we're not the only ones working on street projects. Private developers and the Texas Department of Transportation also have projects going on.

Road Closures Map

In the meantime, use our interactive road closure map to stay ahead of detours and lane closures. It also connects directly to Google Maps and Waze. Plug your destination into either online map to get the best route around the construction.

We're all working give our neighborhoods the safe and smooth roads you deserve. Thank you for your patience!
