(Newport News, VA) - Newport News city offices will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Additional closing and shelter info is as follows:

  • The Four Oaks Day Service Center (7401 Warwick Blvd.) will remain open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide a warming shelter and support services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • The current PORT site is Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church (1024 Harpersville Rd). The PORT location will resume normal hours and move to Denbigh United Presbyterian Church (302 Denbigh Blvd.) on Saturday, Feb. 22. PORT sites operate from 5:30 p.m.-5 a.m.
  • In the event of a widespread power outage, a shelter will be provided for residents in need.
  • All city offices, libraries, and Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 20. Essential city employees and employees deemed mission critical for this event are to report as scheduled.
  • Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 20.
  • Recovery Operations Center (ROC) will also be closed on Thursday, Feb. 20. Collections will resume when operations can be performed safely in residential neighborhoods, as the safety of residents and employees is a major concern. Assessment of residential streets for the safe operation of collection vehicles, will be ongoing. Once it has been determined the city can safely operate heavy automated cart collection vehicles within neighborhoods, collections will resume. Residents can leave bins out without being penalized.
