The Toledo Cancer Research Symposium returns Thursday, May 14, bringing together faculty, trainees, researchers and students from UToledo for a full day of education, discovery and collaboration. A breakfast will be served at 7:45 a.m., and opening remarks will kick off the event at 8:15 a.m. at the Delta Hotels Toledo on the Health Science Campus.
This year's symposium will feature a keynote address by Dr. Zhijian "James" Chen, an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and professor of molecular biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Chen will speak on DNA Immunity and the role of cGAS in igniting inflammation, research at the forefront of understanding how the immune system detects and responds to cancer.

The day will also include presentations and discussions spanning cancer research programs, initiatives and resources across UToledo and the region.
"This gathering not only showcases the cutting-edge cancer research being conducted at UToledo and across our region, but also fosters collaboration among scientists, clinicians and students united in the fight against cancer," said Dr. JT Zhang, professor and chair of the Department of Cell and Cancer Biology and Director of NOCRI.
Attendance is free with a continental breakfast and lunch provided.
The registration and abstract submission deadline has been extended to Friday, April 24. Faculty, staff, students and trainees are encouraged to register at the Toledo Cancer Research Symposium website.
