Jill Johnson, the director of the University of Wyoming International Students and Scholars Office, is the UW staff employee of the year.
The announcement was made during the annual Staff Recognition Day celebration today (Monday) at the Arena-Auditorium.
The annual event honors the hard-working staff of UW. It provides an opportunity to show all staff members how much they are appreciated for everything they do to keep UW -- on the main campus and throughout the state -- functioning and providing a top-notch educational experience to thousands of students.
Johnson was named the UW Staff Employee of the Fourth Quarter this past winter. She has been the director of the International Students and Scholars Office for almost a decade and has been at UW for 25 years, starting as an Office of Admissions recruiter.
Other staff members honored for their contributions to UW are:
Jodi K. Humphrey Inspirational Staff Award: Sam Pehl, WyoCloud systems analyst, and Amanda Reish, Honors College special events coordinator.
E.G. Meyer Family Award: Milton Ontiveroz, Institutional Communications specialist, and Ellyn Sturgeon, Department of Plant Sciences office associate senior.
All-Star Team Staff Award: Nic Behnke, project coordinator; Jason Dienema, instructional technology audio-visual tech; Curtis Harnish, classroom instructional technology supervisor; Cameron Patey, instructional technology audio-visual tech; and Cameron Peete, control systems engineer, all from the Office of Information Technology.
Custodian of the Year Award: Jeff Hill, assistant custodial supervisor in UW Housing, and Ted Markle, Service Building custodian.
Skilled Trades Award: Smokey Strain, electrician.
Presidential Excellence Award: Li Teng, Honors College academic advising manager.
Deans and Directors Award: Kyle Summerfield, research professional in the School of Energy Resources.
Bucking the System Award: Erik Hansen, Utilities Management senior engineer.
Stewardship Award: Li Teng, Honors College academic advising manager.
Off-Campus Award: Omotola Adewuyi, Cheyenne Family Medicine Residency Center nurse, and Jolene Velarde, Cent$ible Nutrition Program educator in Riverton.
Supervisor of the Year Award: Erik McCartor, energy production manager in the Central Energy Plant.
Unsung Hero Award: Pamela Cue, Business Services office associate; Clare Gunshenan, Science and Math Teaching Center outreach educator; Pat McLean, School of Energy Resources office associate senior; and Kelly McMicheal, Structural Trades painter.
True Grit Award: Carlee Hughes, College of Arts and Sciences director of business operations, and Michael Ziemann, Facilities Engineering design engineer.
Pete Simpson Golden Gloves Award: Frankie Vogt, School of Energy Resources business manager.
