UIW Celebrates 2025 Graduates from Mexico Campuses

This July, graduating Cardenales from UIW Campus Bajío in Irapuato, Guanajuato and Centro Universitario Incarnate Word in Mexico City were celebrated with beloved traditions at the campuses' Spring 2025 commencement ceremonies.

On Wednesday, July 9, Campus Bajío kicked off its festivities when hundreds gathered to honor Campus Bajío's Generacíon 2021-2025. The day began with Baccalaureate Mass, which was offered by Monsignor José de Jesús Martínez Zepeda, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Irapuato, who offered a message on the importance of education as a means to serve and transform society. The ceremonies were continued with a traditional procession of Scottish bagpipes and parade of flags from the U.S., Mexico and France, representing UIW's global campuses.

Leaders from UIW in the U.S. joined Campus Bajío leaders for the celebration, with inspiring messages being delivered from Rector José Antonio López Verver y Vargas and UIW President Thomas M. Evans, PhD.

Graduates received degrees in various studies including Psychology, Nutrition, 3-D Animation and Game Design, International Business, Management, Marketing, Education and Banking and Finance. Many of Campus Bajío's graduates have already secured the next steps in their journeys beyond the Nest, which include positions and internships at top companies.

Additionally, many of the graduates from the class of 2025 were recognized with various honors and awards during their time at Campus Bajío. Lourdes Borja was recognized as a Distinguished Student by the College of Public Accountants of Irapuato. Lourdes led the team that won first place in the Regional University Ethics Marathon organized by the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants. Mechatronics Engineering student Adrián Rivera received an internship position at P&G, which will allow him to move to the company's offices in Boston at the end of his studies. Fashion Design and Marketing student Fernando Romero was selected by the apparel industry chamber to participate in the Fashion Design certificate program held in Italy, visiting the most important fashion companies worldwide in Milan and other Italian cities.

Celebrations continued on Thursday, July 10 for Centro Universitario Incarnate Word (CIW) Spring 2025 Commencement. As in the U.S. and Irapuato, Commencement begins in prayer and gratitude with Baccalaureate Mass, one of the Incarnate Word family's most treasured traditions.

To begin the ceremony, Sr. Martha Estela, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, offered the opening address during which she invited all to stand and raise their hands in prayer for the graduates and their loved ones. She thanked God for His guidance and protection of the students during their formation at CIW and prayed that He grant them the strength needed to meet challenges to come and the grace to serve others with love and compassion.

Graduates earned degrees in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, International Business, International Gastronomy, Nutrition, Psychology and Education. Some graduates earned dual degrees recognized in the U.S. and in Mexico.

Notably, fifteen students from different undergraduate programs were accepted into the UN Millennium Fellowship Program, after being selected from more than 52,581 applicants worldwide. This year, more than 4,000 students from 280 campuses in 48 countries, including only six from Latin America, were admitted to the program. In Mexico, only two universities were accepted, CIW & CETYS Universidad Mexicali. The Millennium Fellowship is a United Nations program that prepares young university students to have a social impact on their communities.

Stage guests included leaders from CIW and UIW in the U.S., who prayed for and cheered on graduates as they offered words of encouragement. CIW Rector Dr. Fabiola Iturbide shared that it was a day of great joy for the campus community and offered a message of hope and encouragement. The ceremony closed with parting words from President Evans.

"When you first arrived, you were promised a transformative experience - one that would form you intellectually, personally, spiritually and professionally to become the people that God has called you to be," said Evans. "Graduates of the Spring Class of 2025, I am so proud to share that you are making tremendous strides in industries across Mexico and around the world. You have demonstrated excellence in your fields - receiving distinctions for your work toward equity and social responsibility, earning recognitions for your professional preparation and proving to all that you are the future we are hoping for."
