Colorado Springs Airport (COS) will receive $7.5 million in federal grant funding through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Terminal Program (ATP). The funding comes through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which allocates $5 billion over five years to help airports nationwide upgrade aging terminal infrastructure.
To date, COS has been awarded a total of $27.5 million in ATP funding to support the airport's ElevateCOS terminal modernization project. The multi-year effort will upgrade the terminal by enlarging hold rooms, improving restrooms and public corridors, replacing aging systems with energy-efficient infrastructure, enhancing accessibility beyond ADA standards, and creating more family-friendly passenger spaces. The project is funded through airport cash, federal and state grants, and passenger facility charges. The airport does not receive or use local tax dollars for these improvements.
"This investment is a game changer for our airport and the communities we serve. Airport Terminal Program funding has allowed Colorado Springs Airport to modernize key terminal facilities, increase efficiency and passenger capacity, and incorporate sustainability and accessibility improvements," said Alex Kovacs, director of aviation for Colorado Springs Airport. "These upgrades will strengthen COS' operational resilience, improve passenger flow and enhance the overall customer experience as the airport continues to grow."
The ElevateCOS project will deliver lasting benefits for travelers, airlines and the Pikes Peak region.
