Ministry of Foreign Affairs Holds Luncheon Roundtable with Korean Companies Operating in India

On October 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs convened a luncheon roundtable with representatives of Korean companies operating in India and relevant experts to discuss ways to support those companies. The event was chaired by Oh Jin-hee, Deputy Director-General for Asian and Pacific Affairs.

※ Participating companies: Lotte Wellfood, Mirae Asset Securities, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, KRAFTON, Hyosung TNC

This roundtable is held on a semiannual basis to exchange views on the business environment in India and to discuss ways to address difficulties faced by Korean companies operating in the country. The meeting marked the fourth round, following those held in March and October last year and in the first half of this year.

※ Past meetings: 1st on Mar. 27, 2024; 2nd on Oct. 22, 2024; 3rd on Apr. 16, 2025

Deputy Director-General Oh noted that more than 600 Korean companies are in active operation in India. She added that, in line with the national policy tasks of the new Korean administration finalized on Tuesday, September 16, - which call for the continuation and further development of the New Southern Policy and the New Northern Policy - the Ministry will continue to actively support the Korean companies working at the forefront of Korea-India economic cooperation.

At the roundtable, Kang Sung Yong, Director of the Center for South Asian Studies at the Seoul National University Asia Center, delivered a presentation on India's economic conditions, economic policy orientation, and relevant outlooks. Participating companies exchanged views on their operations and the business environment in India, shared their difficulties, and put forward suggestions for the Korean government.

In light of the growing number of Korean companies entering the Indian market and the consequent rise in the demand for government support, the Korean government is strengthening assistance measures including holding these regular luncheon roundtables and launching the Korea-India Fast Track Mechanism with the Indian government in December last year to help resolve difficulties facing Korean companies in India.

※ The Fast Track Mechanism enables Korean investors to raise issues directly with relevant Indian authorities. It is to be convened twice a year and co-chaired by senior officials of the two countries (Minister at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India and the Joint Secretary of India's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade). Its first meeting was held on December 6, 2024, in New Delhi.

The Ministry will continue to strengthen communication with Korean companies operating overseas and help resolve their difficulties so that they can conduct business stably amid changes in the global economic environment.
