The Malta Red Cross has officially been awarded the Quality Label under the European Solidarity Corps programme, during a visit by the Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi. This recognition confirms that the organisation meets European quality standards to host, support, and manage volunteers from across Europe.
During his visit, Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi emphasised the importance of initiatives that promote solidarity and civic engagement among young people, while offering valuable learning opportunities and life experiences. He noted that the Quality Label will enable the Malta Red Cross to further expand its work and attract more international volunteers who actively contribute to the Maltese community.
The Minister stated that, "This recognition is a testament to the important work being carried out by the Malta Red Cross, an organisation that not only has a strong presence within our community but also maintains solid international connections. Through the Quality Label, it will continue to provide learning experiences and personal development opportunities to volunteers from across Europe, while strengthening the values of solidarity, inclusion, and respect for human rights."
He added that initiatives such as these demonstrate how European Funds can be used to support projects that make a real difference in people's lives, while promoting active youth participation and cooperation between European countries.
In this context, the Chief Executive Officer of the European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA), Raphael Scerri, welcomed this development and stated that, "The Quality Label is an important step for more Maltese organisations to actively participate in the European Solidarity Corps. The Malta Red Cross is a clear example of how local organisations can achieve European quality standards and form part of a wider network of European solidarity."
The European Solidarity Corps is a European Union programme that offers opportunities for young people to engage in volunteering, work, and projects addressing social and community challenges.
The Malta Red Cross has extensive experience in areas such as rescue services and beach patrols, as well as other humanitarian activities.
At the end of the visit, the Minister thanked this voluntary organisation for its commitment and ongoing work in service of the Maltese community, while wishing it continued success in its future projects.
