HARRISBURG - State Rep. Michael Stender (R-Montour/Northumberland) announced he has been appointed to serve on the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Environmental Resources, Finance, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees for the 2025-26 Legislative Session.
"It is an honor to serve on these committees that address the diverse and critical issues impacting the 108th District and communities across Pennsylvania," said Stender. "With my career experience and the insight gained from growing up in an agriculture-dependent area, I remain dedicated to supporting legislation that promotes the well-being, growth and prosperity of all Pennsylvanians."
As a member of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Stender will help shape policies affecting the state's farming and agricultural operations. This committee addresses issues including the timber industry, horse and harness racing, food safety, restaurant inspections, dog law enforcement, pesticide use, and state-funded agricultural programs.
The Environmental Resources Committee provides oversight of 45 environmental laws administered by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). This committee focuses on legislation related to clean air, water and land conservation, waste disposal and recycling.
On the Finance Committee, Stender will work on matters related to taxation, fiscal policy and the investment of state funds. The committee also reviews legislation related to the operation of the Pennsylvania Lottery, including programs such as the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE), both funded by the lottery.
Stender will bring his experience as a career and volunteer firefighter and former emergency medical technician to the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. This committee focuses on supporting Pennsylvania's first responders and veterans, as well as ensuring the safety of all Commonwealth residents. One of the key priorities this session will be addressing the recruitment and retention of emergency responders.
