FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 30, 2026

Sacramento - The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has temporarily closed the San Pedro office at 1511 N. Gaffey St. until further notice due to flooding inside the office. Customers are being redirected to nearby DMV offices.

The health and safety of team members and customers is the DMV's top priority. The department apologizes for any inconvenience the closure has caused.

Until the flooding issue is resolved, customers can visit other DMV locations for in-office services. San Pedro drive test appointments will be honored only at the Torrance office. All other San Pedro appointments will be honored at the Torrance, Long Beach and Compton offices:

  • Torrance: 1785 W. 220th St. (6 miles from the San Pedro office)
  • Long Beach: 3700 E. Willow St. (12 miles from the San Pedro office)
  • Compton: 2111 S. Santa Fe Ave. (15 miles from the San Pedro office)

Before Going to a DMV Office - Try Online First

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit, including simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in offices. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions, such as eligible driver's license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn about options to complete DMV tasks.

Go Paperless - To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver's license renewal notices, sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov to opt in.
