~ Residents Should Expect Traffic Delays Through October 2026 ~
March 26, 2026 - The City of St. Petersburg will close one lane of the San Martin Bridge beginning March 30, and traffic delays are expected on San Martin Blvd. and 83rd Ave. N through October 2026. Drivers who use this corridor as a cut-through between Gandy Blvd. and 4th St. N are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
The City of St. Petersburg is beginning construction work to relocate critical utilities currently attached to the San Martin Bridge to beneath Riviera Bay. The project, scheduled to continue through October 2026, will reduce San Martin Blvd. to one lane between Weedon Dr. NE and Tallahassee Dr. NE. During this period:
Motor vehicles and bicycles will share the roadway in a single-file configuration.
Temporary traffic signals will alternate vehicle flows across the bridge in both directions, resulting in extended delays during peak travel times.
The City is relocating a 24-inch wastewater force main and a 12-inch drinking water main to improve long-term system reliability, enhance storm resilience, and safeguard local waterways. These utilities are being moved beneath Riviera Bay in preparation for Pinellas County's planned replacement of the San Martin Bridge, scheduled to begin in fall 2027, which will increase bridge clearance for boat traffic.
