Toledo, OH - Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced that the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $7,761,502 in federal support for critical health programs and medical research across Ohio's 9th District. These federal investments are part of a broader effort to enhance health and educational outcomes across Northwest Ohio.
The $7,761,502 in federal awards from HHS include:
"Northwest Ohio has a strong foundation in medical research anchored by the University of Toledo and health programs that promote healthy living for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our local health center programs, Head Start programs, and medical research initiatives across Northwest Ohio help to strengthen our communities in ways both big and small by strengthening the health and education of our citizens," said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). "These federal investments in our communities ensure our young people stay on track and makes health care more accessible. Building on accessible local programs and investing in medical research helps to advance the capabilities for healing across our region."
These new federal investments build on previous awards to counties across our Northwest Ohio region and the University of Toledo. In November 2025 Congresswoman Kaptur announced that three Northwest Ohio organizations have been awarded a combined total of more than $3.7 Million in new federal funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families. In September 2025, she announced that the University of Toledo has been recognized with a new federal research award totaling $387,549 from the National Institute on Aging, part of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In November 2024 Congresswoman Kaptur delivered a $1,000,000 award for Erie County, Ohio, from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Quality Improvement Fund - Justice Involved program.
