What are EAfA Communities?

Launched in 2023, EAfA Communities are dedicated thematic groups where 226 members come together to explore, share, and develop knowledge on key topics in European apprenticeships. Currently, five Communities are active:

  • Learning mobility of apprentices
  • Social inclusion and gender equality
  • Green and digital transitions
  • Role of cities and regions in fostering apprenticeships
  • Higher apprenticeships.

What is in the Compendium?

The EAfA Compendium of Good Practices from EAfA Community Members brings together over 40 real-world examples of how organisations are strengthening the quality, supply, and image of apprenticeships as well as mobility of apprentices across Europe. While Community members have accomplished much together, the Compendium spotlights the individual actions each organisation has taken to advance EAfA's mission.

Practices are organised across six thematic sections, reflecting the topics addressed by the five Communities and including one overarching theme: promoting and enhancing apprenticeships.

Within each theme, practices are also categorised by type of intervention, making it easy to find approaches relevant to your context and role:

  • Awareness-raising and outreach: Campaigns to inform, engage and reduce stigma around apprenticeships
  • Capacity-building for stakeholders: Training and structural support for organisations delivering apprenticeships
  • Support services for learners: Personalised support for apprentices before, during and after their placement
  • Financial incentives and support: Tools to reduce financial barriers and incentivise participation
  • Multi-stakeholder partnerships: Collaborative initiatives involving VET providers, employers, authorities and NGOs
  • Curriculum and programme innovation: Development or reform of learning programmes for emerging needs

Why read it?

The Compendium is designed as a practical, go-to resource for anyone working on apprenticeship policy or delivery. Each entry includes guidance on replicating successful approaches, highlights what made each initiative effective, and is organised to allow easy navigation by theme or type of intervention.

Whether you are an EAfA member seeking fresh inspiration or a practitioner looking for new ideas, this Compendium offers directly transferable insights grounded in the lived experience of organisations across Europe.
