Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced a new energy education curriculum to help prepare high school students for careers in the growing energy sector. The Indiana Office of Energy Development leveraged U.S. State Energy Program funding to develop the curriculum collaboratively with the Indiana FFA Foundation and the Indiana Department of Education. The curriculum is designed for students pursuing Career and Technical Education pathways in the Agriculture and Energy and Natural Resources Career Clusters and introduces students to a range of energy topics, including nuclear, geothermal, biomass, and solar energy. Lessons use an inquiry-based instructional model and include assessments to help educators measure student progress.
The curriculum is intended to strengthen Indiana's energy workforce pipeline and connect classroom instruction with real-world career opportunities. Indiana Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources Suzanne Jaworowski emphasized, "as the energy sector undergoes a rapid transformation, this curriculum equips young people with the critical knowledge needed to navigate and lead in a changing world."
More information about the curriculum can be found on the Office of Energy Development's website, and registered agriculture education teachers in Indiana can access the curriculum at no cost through the Indiana FFA Foundation.
