Plowing operations begin in east-central Georgia

Augusta, Ga. - As snow falls across the area, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is plowing Interstate 20 in east-central Georgia.

As of 9:15 a.m. Friday, plowing operations are underway on I-20 from mile marker 84 to mile marker 138. Crews in the Augusta area are actively loading up plow equipment and preparing to begin plowing I-520 and I-20 from mile marker 138 to the South Carolina state line. As snow falls in these areas, plowing helps prevent accumulation. Plow crews are also salting bridges as they drive their routes.

Georgia DOT continues to monitor the weather and is prepared to change treatment plans as needed.

As of 9:15 a.m. Friday, all state routes in District 2 (east-central Georgia) are passable.

We ask drivers in affected areas to limit travel as much as possible. If you must travel, please give Georgia DOT crews room and space on the roads to help ensure they can safely do their jobs.
