Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), Southeast Regional Office (SERO) has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: Hecla Greens Creek Mining Company
PROJECT NAME: ADL 109506
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
Hawk Inlet, within the limits of the City and Borough of Juneau, approximately 18-miles southwest of Juneau International Airport.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
On March 13th, 2026, Hecla Greens Creek Mining Company ("applicant") submitted an application to DMLW for the installation and maintenance of a new outfall pipeline (Outfall 002A) beginning at the Pond 7 Water Treatment Plant for Greens Creek Mine, terminating to a Alaska Pollution Discharge Elimination System (APDES) permitted mixing zone under Permit AK0043206, within the state-owned submerged lands of Hawk Inlet. The purpose of this outfall is to transfer treated water from upland mining operations to the permitted discharge location.
The outfall will be constructed of a 14-inch fused and bolted HDPE pipe, approximately 4,062-feet of pipe will be installed on state-owned tidelands and submerged lands of Hawk Inlet. The new outfall will follow the existing alignment of Outfall 002, currently authorized under ADL 105124, for a short distance along state-owned tidelands, before shifting to the new proposed alignment installed on state-owned submerged lands within Hawk Inlet.
The installation will be supported by heavy equipment listed but not limited to excavators, pickup trucks, and support barge. Excavators to be utilized are CAT340 and CAT350. Rig mats will be used for travel across state-owned tidelands. A 185-foot x 50-foot support barge will be used to install the remaining outfall on state-owned submerged lands.REQUESTED TERM: 15 years
