Mayor Anderson's Statement on the Council Transition Process

"I want to congratulate our four incoming councilmembers on their election. Gilbert residents made their voices heard, and that matters. I also want to be direct about how this transition works: the new members will be sworn in this January, and that is when their formal role in policy decisions begins, not before. Until then, our current Council holds that responsibility and will continue to carry it out with the seriousness it requires.

Policy-making deserves rigorous debate in the public forums where decisions are formally considered and made by the sitting elected officials accountable to our residents. If we want a productive transition, it needs to happen through the appropriate channels and directly with the Town, not through public statements that include inaccuracies about how decisions are being made or who is making them.

We know our incoming members have priorities they care about, and I look forward to working with them, through the appropriate process, to ensure we are making the best decisions for Gilbert today and into the future."
