D.C. Man Sentenced for Violently Abusing Two Dogs in the Presence of Children

WASHINGTON - Georvell Brown, 33, of Washington D.C., was sentenced in D.C. Superior Court today to six-months in prison in connection with four separate criminal offenses involving felony animal cruelty, an assault and threats at a metro station, an intoxicated crash that hospitalized another motorist, and a Bail Reform Act violation, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

"Georvell Brown violently abused his family's dogs, Queenie and Prada. He stabbed a blind animal who was helpless in her cage," said U.S. Attorney Pirro. "We charged him, and he was convicted today of animal cruelty, but Judge Israel sentenced him to just six months. The maximum penalty is only one year, and that is unacceptable. D.C. must stop treating animal cruelty as a minor offense and start punishing it like the violent crime it is."

The defendant pleaded guilty on August 27, 2026, before Judge Deborah Israel to one count of felony cruelty to animals, one count of misdemeanor threats, one count of misdemeanor assault, one count of a Bail Reform Act violation, and one count of misdemeanor Driving Under the Influence. Federal prosecutors requested the maximum sentence under Brown's sentencing guidelines of one year for felony cruelty to animals.

According to the government's evidence, on January 17, 2026, the defendant brutally assaulted two defenseless dogs belonging to his mother and sister while three children were present inside the home. He repeatedly punched a Yorkie named Prada with full force until the dog escaped and limped to hide under a bed. He then repeatedly stabbed a blind pit bull named Queen (aka Queenie) in the mouth with two large knives while the dog was trapped inside a crate, unable to see or escape the attack. The terror inflicted during the attack was captured on a 911 call, featuring barking dogs and family members desperately pleading with the defendant to stop. Emergency responders found Queenie bleeding heavily, with blood pooled across the crate, wall, and floor. Queenie required emergency veterinary care for severe mouth lacerations, including under her tongue. A 2024 police report revealed prior abuse by the defendant against both dogs, including kicking Prada and stabbing Queenie in the face. The defendant's actions prompted the family to ultimately surrender Queenie out of fear for her safety.

The defendant also assaulted and threatened to kill a stranger at the Fort Totten metro station, leading to misdemeanor assault and felony threats charges. He then committed a Bail Reform Act violation by failing to appear in that case.

In another incident, the defendant drove while extremely intoxicated, crashing his vehicle into another car and leaving the victim in need of hospitalization. This incident is under the jurisdiction of the D.C. Office of the Attorney General. Judge Israel ordered Brown to serve a total of 2 years and 9 months but suspended 2 years and 3 months.

This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the Human Rescue Alliance. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Christie.
