New Editor in International

Maya Chung Joins the Seoul Newsroom

Keeping pace with the Asia report requires an editor who can move from a high-level cultural piece to a breaking news alert without missing a beat. Maya Chung, who is joining International as a senior staff editor in our Seoul hub , brings just that kind of versatility.

Maya comes to us from The Atlantic, where she spent years sharpening the work of some of the most demanding critics and thinkers in the books industry. Maya was hired in 2022 to help expand the magazine's books coverage, a role that involved commissioning and editing essays, steering a newsletter and collaborating on major editorial projects.

Now, she brings her creativity and drive to our 24/7 global operation. Maya will be an important part of our Asia coverage - fielding stories from across the report, sharpening headlines and jumping into live coverage when the news cycle demands it.

Maya is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Journalism School. She'll start work at our New York headquarters before moving to Seoul in a few weeks. Please join us in welcoming her to the team.
