ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University's William L. Clay Sr. Institute of Civic Engagement and Economic Justice will host a public conversation, "Every Voice, Every Vote: Exploring Civic Life Across Missouri," on Monday, April 27.
The event, hosted in partnership with the SLU/YouGov Poll and the Missouri Humanities Council, will bring together community members, students and civic leaders to discuss how Missourians experience democracy today, what builds trust in elections, what barriers to participation remain, and how shared values shape civic life.
The conversation will be moderated by Sarah Fenske, executive editor of St. Louis Magazine. The conversation will include questions posed in the February 2026 SLU/YouGov Poll. The poll surveyed 900 likely Missouri voters about their views on key issues facing state and national governments, evaluations of political actors and upcoming elections.
Panelists will include Christopher Duncan, Ph.D., professor of political science at Saint Louis University; Jerry Hunter, J.D., chair of the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners; Travis Krum, J.D., professor of law at Washington University School of Law; and Denise Lieberman, J.D., director and general counsel, Missouri Voter Protection Coalition.
The Clay Institute, housed within SLU's Center for Social Action, launched in 2025. It offers programming to all students with an interest in civic engagement and democratic participation.
The event is funded by a grant from the Missouri Humanities Council (MHC). The MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
