County Executive McCoy Celebrates Public Health Week

Post Date:04/03/2026 2:22 pm

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy recognizes April 6 - 12 as National Public Health Week. Public Health plays a vital role in keeping our community healthy and we fulfill its core mission of preventing disease and injury by promoting healthy behaviors and protecting the public.

"Public health is what makes it possible for people to live, work and raise their families with confidence," said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. "It's the clean water we drink, the programs that protect our food and housing, the support systems to keep families healthy, and our everyday efforts to prepare for and respond to public health threats. This happens in large part to the hard work of our county public health employees and for that, I want to say 'thank you' to them."

Each year during the first week of April, National Public Health week highlights the importance of building strong, healthy communities. It recognizes the everyday work of public health, its systems and the partnerships that help prevent illness, promote wellness, and protect the health of the community.

The Albany County Department of Health continues to make meaningful progress towards the betterment of our communities through initiatives that will directly benefit the residents of Albany County. This includes prevention through education and immunizations by promoting healthy lifestyles, monitoring and responding to disease outbreaks, providing in-home support through public health nurses and community health workers, and connecting residents to clinics, screenings, and support services.

"Public health helps support the conditions that allow people to live well at every stage of life," said Albany County Commissioner of Health Dr. Kristen Navarette. "Alongside our healthcare systems, health needs to be supported by everyday systems that help make a good quality of life possible for our entire community."

This week is a reminder that public health is a shared effort. From everyday choices to community partnerships, it's the small actions we make that add to a healthier and more resilient Albany County.
