The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) protects reproductive health providers from attacks and helps ensure patients can safely access the care they need without interference, intimidation, or violence.
WASHINGTON, DC -Today, President Donald Trump pardoned 23 anti-abortion extremists who violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act), a federal law which protects patients, providers, and health center staff from violence. In response, Krista Noah, National Director of Affiliate Security and Response Planning at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, released the following statement:
"Yet again Donald Trump has pardoned convicted criminals - this time nearly two dozen individuals who have used violence to either harass, intimidate, or even prevent people from accessing needed health care, including at Planned Parenthood health centers. Not even a week into his presidency, Donald Trump has disregarded the law and greenlit violence against abortion providers, all at the expense of people who wish to live in peace and safely exercise the reproductive freedom they deserve.
"At Planned Parenthood, our top priority is always the safety and well-being of Planned Parenthood patients, providers, health center staff, and volunteers. Everyone deserves to provide and access sexual and reproductive health care in a safe and supportive environment. We stand firm against those who want to use violence to intimidate Planned Parenthood staff, patients, and supporters."
The FACE Act was passed by Congress in 1994 in response to an increase in violence towards patients and providers of reproductive health centers.
