Equinor – Gullfaks B – management of emergency preparedness and helideck

The audit was conducted between 7 and 10 October 2025.

The Civil Aviation Authority Norway participated as an auxiliary agency in auditing the helideck and helicopter operations.

Objective

The objective of the audit was to verify processes and systems that contribute to ensuring the comprehensive management of emergency preparedness at Gullfaks B, and to verify that the helideck complies with regulatory requirements in order to help ensure safe helicopter operations and personnel transport at the facility.

Result

The audit identified four non-conformities in the following areas:

  • Missing marking and signage of escape routes
  • Lack of deputy for HSE coordinator/nurse
  • Inadequate testing of lifeboat sprinkler system
  • Helideck lighting

In addition, we observed two factors that we have chosen to categorise as improvement points. These concerned:

  • Deficient training in handling of specific hazard and accident situations
  • Transmitter power of VHF radio

What happens now?

We have asked Equinor Energy AS to report to us by 19 December 2025 on how the non-conformities will be addressed, and for their assessment of the improvement points observed.
