The Alfred University Orchestra and Concert Band are set to take the stage for a pair of concerts this weekend in Miller Theater. Both shows are free and open to the public.

On Friday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m., the Alfred University Orchestra, under the direction of Lisa Lantz, professor of music, presents Spotlight on the Orchestra, a concert showcasing the incredible talent of student soloists. Brooklyn Liljehorn and Angelina Olivera will perform Vivaldi's electrifying Concerto for Two Cellos, while Garrett Farabaugh will share the expressive slow movement from Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. The evening will also feature music by Holst, Elgar, and Karl Jenkins, highlighting the rich and dynamic range of orchestral sound.

On Saturday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., the Alfred University Concert Band takes the stage with a festive and diverse program conducted by Linda Boianova, visiting professor of music. The evening includes timeless classics like Emperor Waltz, Thunder and Lightning Polka, and the celebratory Radetzky March by Johann Strauss (1825-1899), celebrating 100 years since his birth! Also featured are Rimsky-Korsakov's majestic Procession of the Nobles, Duke Ellington's soulful Solitude, and the jazz standard Body and Soul by Green, Heyman, Sour, and Eyton. Rounding out the program is Timothy Broege's vibrant Three American Pieces for Band.

The concerts offer an excellent opportunity to experience the music making and collaboration of Alfred University's student musicians. Whether you're a classical music aficionado or simply love a good live performance, these concerts promise something for everyone. Come celebrate the end of the semester with two unforgettable evenings of music.
